Ron Clavier
I was born into an arts-loving family in Montréal in 1948. At the age of 6, I attended art classes at the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts. I was soon introduced to the wonders of science. I obtained a Ph.D. in neuroscience and joined the medical faculties of three universities. Throughout that time, I kept my art studio active and showed my work in juried exhibitions since 1995.
My entire professional life has revolved around enjoying the marriage of science and art, which are the two most basic of human intellectual activities. This passion has culminated in the recent preparation of my second book: “Eye to Eye: Art, Science, and the Importance of Truth”.
In 2018, I founded The Art Gallery of Niagara-on-the-Lake. What can be more exhilarating, more central to learning, than to enter a gallery and step into the mind of another person and see how they experience the very same thing? Whether it be a painting, a person, a philosophy, or a scientific theory, my goal is simply to add a dimension of cognitive depth to our understanding of the world by enabling people to see things from different perspectives. My philosophy is that seeing “eye-to-eye” empowers us to defy what is irrational and to arrive at a deeper comprehension of the truth. I retired to Niagara on the Lake, Ontario, in 2012, where I enjoy life with my wife, Lita, and our children and grandchildren.
“I paint in oils on canvas. While I enjoy painting pretty pictures with commercial attractiveness, I strive to ensure that every canvas I create conveys an important expression of truth, aimed at generating insight as well as entertainment.”
